Here is what we know (undeniably).
-people are more productive when they work less
-work/life balance is becoming increasingly more important
-we have an aging work force, more mature people with families
-people want input in to their job
-money is NOT a major motivator
-security (job/benefits) ARE a major motivator
Here is what you don’t know…
-bonuses for performance that require “thinking” actually lower performance for managers. We all know that manager use their brains – a lot!
-money is only an issue when you don’t pay enough. If you pay enough that issue goes away
-People want to be “self-directed”

So… here are my questions to you.
-Why do we keep trying to hire people by offering below market wages and offer a bonus with a 50% (or less) chance of being realized?
-Why do we make people wait 3 months to receive their benefits to take care of thier family?
-Why do we keep saying “we want people that aren’t afraid to put in the hours” and risk burning them out and turning them over?
-Why do we look for the most experienced people then manage them to the point of suffocation?
